You launched a home-based business with a great deal of expectancy. You appear to be doing all the right things however the “Big P” also known as procrastination is overtaking you, and the growth you wished to make in your home-based business is evading you. This circumstance is unfortunately not new and all too common amongst new entrepreneurs.

They began their journey hoping their path will undoubtedly be smooth sailing but life has a funny habit of not always being easy for us. So when the going gets tough, they are apt to procrastinate which is, of course, the wrong response.

Yes, so what is procrastination anyway? The dictionary defines it as “postponing or deferring activity.” People, especially entrepreneurs that are affected by procrastination many times recognize it themselves. However only a few make a genuine attempt to change but many more of don’t. They permit critical items to drag on or refuse to take the first positive step to any real solution.

Successful people rarely procrastinate. This ability to push through is just what propels them towards their goal as well as success in life. Even when they do postpone at times, they do not enable procrastination to grab them and keep a long hold.  They have the mental techniques to break free and keep going.

Here is how you stop procrastination and do well in your entrepreneurial endeavor or home-based business.

1. Establish Realistic Goals.

Never attempt to do anything beyond what you could handle even with a “stretch.” If you try to do something that is well past your capacity, the entire exercise may end up being overwhelming and also prevent you from even attempting what you want to accomplish. Your subconscious recognizes this internal conflict, and then you tend to procrastinate.

2. Prepare “To Do” Lists.

It is always useful to prepare a checklist of the things you wish to do. Make this a daily activity, and it will undoubtedly assist you in accomplishing your goals and help you focus on the essential tasks. A list should be split into two with one for short-term and the other for longer-term objectives. Further, break them down into smaller sized actions or what I call “chunking it down.” The entire function of two checklists is to motivate you to begin and to quit procrastination. An individual with a propensity to put things off will indeed never start if he watches a long checklist of jobs to be achieved. On the other hand, viewing a shorter to-do list could encourage him or her to get started.

3. Always have a Due Date.

Due dates inevitably play a crucial part when you intend to accomplish some task. Your due dates have to be realistic and also achievable. Unattainable deadlines will only cause aggravation, frustration, and create a feeling of incompetence related to your ambition of running a successful home-based business or other entrepreneurial endeavors.

4. Get Going Now.

As soon as you have completed all the preliminaries such as analysis, preparation, obtaining good advice, etc. put yourself self in motion and your in motion feet moving. Excellence is not required the “need” for perfection must be banished. All your preparatory work will be of no use if you are reluctant or are vacillating because everything isn’t just right. This self-sabotage reminds me of a Zen proverb: “He that ponders fully before taking a step will live his entire life on one leg.”

5. Read Success and Inspiring Stories.

Turn off the TV.  Stop watching “murder news.” Instead, make a routine of reading about (or listening) the lives of successful women and men that will inspire you to emulate them. Successful people are terrific at not procrastinating.  Also, another byproduct of this “brain food” is that by reviewing these stories you will gradually wean from your propensity to dawdle and delay.

6. Give Yourself a Little Reward.

Whenever you finally complete your task or achieve one of your small goals. Take some time out and enjoy the company of your pals or take your family members out. This will give you a sense of delight, satisfaction, as well as success and will motivate you further to be a successful home-based entrepreneur.

Conclusion.

Successful people after careful consideration don’t hesitate to take the initial step towards their objective which is ultimately what matters most. You too can stop procrastination by following these techniques and power your home-based business to success.
