Becoming and being productive at work can be demanding. It can be a battle to know where to start controlling your time in ways that are conducive to your productivity. Whoever you are, it can be a struggle to understand how to design your time effectively. Everyone needs to be on point with how to manage their time. These are five of the best and easiest ways that you can dramatically increase your productivity.

Get Rid of All Distractions

When an email pops up on your screen, when your phone buzzes, or your office door opens, your thought process is derailed. We all like to believe that we can participate in group activities, create our presentation, or write our article. However, the truth is, we can’t do it. Your best work will come with peace and quiet. If you want to boost your productivity, then you have to turn off all the distractions.

This is particularly true for entrepreneurs as I highlight in one of my video strategy sessions, “Productivity Tips For Entrepreneurs And Small Business Owners.”

Forget About Multitasking

It can be especially tempting to want to try and take care of several tasks at once. However, it’s been proven that this approach doesn’t work. If you think that you can efficiently shuffle and manage phone calls, emails, and presentations without killing your productivity, you’re kidding yourself. If you want to increase your productivity, you need to concentrate on one task at a time.

Taking a Break is Good

You might think that more time working will help you get more things done; however, it is just the opposite. When you’re burned out, you will never work as well. Studies, in periodicals such as Psychology Today, show that taking regular breaks during the day will dramatically help increase concentration and boost your mood. To help boost your productivity, take frequent short breaks, and walk around the office or grab a mid-day coffee.

Use the 2-Minute Rule

Make the most of your time by filling those tiny blocks of downtime with actual tasks. Identifying and completing tasks that take less than two minutes to finish will save you time during the day. If you have tasks that you can finish in two minutes or less, jump in and do them. This 2-minute rule has an amazing effect on how productive you are with minimal effort.

Tackle the Biggest Projects or Tasks When You’re Alert

Understanding when you work best is key to successfully handling the big projects on time. No set schedule works for everyone. If you’re a morning person, tackle your big tasks when you first start your day. The best time of day to do everything that is complex or mind taxing at work, according to science, is when you are fresh and alert.

Not every day will be super productive, so don’t beat yourself up over it. Instead, try to refocus your energy and insert these productivity tips into your day. Once you find what works for you, you’ll be amazed at how productive you are and how much more can get done.
