You are what you eat?  Yes, our mothers were correct.  Healthy eating is the foundation of a healthy lifestyle.  But can you ignore the not so good food and drink temptations all around you?  Yes!  Healthy eating is something that doesn’t have to take a lot of discipline and practice. In many cases, you have to take the advice you heard as a child!

Does this topic concern you? Well, are you an entrepreneur? Business owner? Corporate or solo practice professional?  Then the answer is yes so keep reading and see how!  Good health is an ally in any business owner’s battle to become and stay successful.  For more on this see my previous post 5 Great Success Benefits Of A Life With Health And Fitness.

Let’s assume you were not raised eating what we know now to be a healthy diet.   Perhaps you were but found yourself falling into patterns of unhealthy eating over time. Fortunately, changing a habit is a lot more straightforward than it might appear at first glance. If you are ready and willing to make a lasting change, then you will be able to change your habits and enjoy a healthy lifestyle from here on out. There is an excellent article on this topic in Psychology Today by Teri Goetz, “How to Change Unhealthy Habits.”

Identify Health Vs. Unhealthy Habits

First of all, you have to identify your unhealthy habits before you can begin to break them. This cannot be very easy for many people. But it can help to keep journals of your regular activities and habits, that way, you can begin to identify self-destructive patterns. Once you have recognized these self-destructive patterns, then you will find that you can predict when you may start to act self-destructive.

A lot of the time, self-destructive actions have trigger points that you can identify. If you know what causes you to act out, then you know the things that will sabotage your efforts. Now you can more easily avoid them or realize what is happening before you give up and lose your progress.

Time For An Intervention

Second, after you have identified your negative habits, it is time to do an intervention. Please do not allow yourself to shift into autopilot so that your brain is doing whatever it wants, and your body is forced to follow suit. You have to start to take control of your mind. If you do not control your mental state, then you do not control anything about yourself.

If need be, you may want to enlist the help of a qualified professional or program. This will quickly and efficiently help you to identify your negative patterns and healthily address them. Regardless, you have the power to change your habits.

Once you have detected them, and you can stop yourself from going down a negative thought spiral. Now you can interrupt your thoughts and refocus them toward something more positive.

Healthy Eating Habits

Do A Little Research

Third, for example, if you find yourself thinking about how wonderful it would be to eat at a fast-food restaurant, interrupt your pattern. Instead of brainwashing yourself with memories of the chemically induced flavors of fast food, instead, do a little research and make a list of all the reasons why fast food is unhealthy, addictive, and chemically horrible for your body.

It will take some self-discipline at first. However, whenever you start to have a craving for the lousy food, interrupt those positive thoughts with the actual negative reality.

That will help to dissuade you from eating foods that are terrible for you and encourage you to seek out better sources of nourishment.

Conclusion

Being able to identify these negative thought patterns allows you to address them and refocus on a positive mental attitude and mindset. Create a physical change in your brain by interrupting them with positive thoughts.

This a natural often overlooked way to physically rewire your mind so that you are no longer a slave to your impulses. And that is how healthy eating begins! Remember as an entrepreneur, business owner, or other highly functioning worker good health is your secret ally in achieving your success.
