How to Increase Your Income at Work
Ask for a raise. If you feel you are over performing and are under paid for it then ask for more. A couple of great places to get tips for doing this successfully are http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/ or http://www.monster.com/. Also take the time to research some articles and advice regarding asking for a raise in a turbulent economy before going into your supervisor. You want to feel very confident in what you bring to the company before walking in that door.
Quick tips you may need to do before asking for a raise:
- Determine the expectations for your position.
- Over perform versus expectations – grow sales, bigger funnel, more appointments, etc. In short, are you helping to increase the bottom line or would you be considered expendable?
- Document your success! Put it in writing.
- Let your supervisor know you are over delivering. Your supervisor should already know this, but it is certainly to your advantage to point out the obvious.
- Show that you are underpaid. Visit this website http://www.salary.com/ and take advantage of their Salary Wizard® tool which will help you access and evaluate your current and proposed salary.
- Have a great attitude. If you are perceived as being a negative personality it will not stand you in good stead. Do an honest appraisal of your persona and do this with unflinching honesty. If you are one of those people who invariably point out why any proposed idea or solution will not work, but don’t offer a better solution or alternative, you will not be valued in your workplace. In fact, you will likely be avoided. You must position yourself to be perceived as a team player in a forward thinking environment.
