Getting the Most Out of Group Tour Travel

group travelGroup tour travel is a great way to save money and broaden your access to exotic destinations. These excursions have a lot more to offer than just a ride on a bus.

Tour companies often have the leverage and connections to negotiate significant discounts with hotels and other vendors. They can help you cut your vacation expenses. If you’re a first time traveler, a group tour can help you to get around in unfamiliar territory. Some destinations are difficult to visit at all without an experienced guide, and group tour travel solves that dilemma.

There are many excellent group travel services to meet all kinds of individual needs. Keep these points in mind to get your money’s worth.

General Guidelines for Booking a Group Tour:

  1. Choose a reputable company. Ask around for recommendations from family and friends. Visit some travel forums and message boards such as Fodor’s. When you’re screening a company, ask them how many tours they’ve done and get references.
  2. Clarify the total costs. Make sure you understand the full cost of your trip. Ask if the stated price includes all meals, admission to sights, and transportation. Figure in tips and the cost of any optional excursions that may entail a supplemental charge.
  3. Review the daily itinerary and accommodations. Find out what you’ll be doing and where you’ll be staying.  Some tour companies use hotels on the outskirts of town because they’re cheaper. Make sure there is easy transportation to downtown sites if that is important to you.
Check how many meals are included. You may want to visit some local restaurants, even if you have to pay a little extra. Do your own research on any shopping recommendations the tour guide provides. They may receive compensation from local merchants, so evaluate the best deals for yourself.
  4. Look for knowledgeable guides. Enthusiastic and experienced guides can enrich your travel experience. Find out if they’re local residents or fluent in the local language.

Choosing the Right Tour for Your Individual Needs:

  1. Select a group that you’ll enjoy traveling with. Different tour services attract different clientele. Research their target market to ensure it matches any preference you may have for traveling with singles or with couples. You may also be able to find tours that welcome seniors or children, or ones that particularly focus on cultural, religious, or outdoor activities.

  2. If the environment is important to you, look into eco-tourism. Lots of companies claim to be eco-friendly, so research any advertised claims. Confirm if they rely on local goods and services. Ask about their policies to conserve energy and reduce waste.
  3. Make arrangements for independent time. A good tour company should be willing to accommodate your need for some independent time, as long as you don’t disrupt their operations. Be tactful in letting your tour guide know when you plan to venture out on your own.

Group tour travel can help you see the world and save money at the same time. Shop carefully and schedule your time wisely to make the most of your vacation.

Happy New Year From Theodore Henderson

Another year has gone by and a new one is just around the corner.  At these times we usually wish everyone all the best for the coming year and we reflect on the past year and make plans for the coming year.  We normally take this time to think about making improvements in our life and doing better and being better.  I have decided that this year more than ever I will reflect the purpose for which we are here and how I can better be of service.

It is in this spirit that I would like to get to know each and every one of you much better and how I can help or be of service to you. I extend my hand in true friendship. I am truly interested in you and your well being and I want to hear from you often.

I would like to wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2009!
